Adapting off brand lenses to specific camera's is nothing new, people have been doing it for years, but this was my first real crack at testing some legacy glass on the X-Pro1, so I thought I would share some images from the shoot and some thoughts on the overall process. This story begins some time ago when I was browsing the consignment area over at The Camera Store and noticed a Nikkor 105mm f/2.5 ai-s just sitting there looking lonely with a nice little price tag attached to it. It tugged on my heart strings a little (not really) so I scooped it up along with the Metabones NF-X adapter and set out to start planning a shoot to test this new combo.
What ended up happening instead is that Fuji contacted me about shooting with the 56mm f/1.2, and this little combo got put on the shelf for the time being. Readers of this blog will already know what happened next, but if you're new here, check out my Fuji 56mm f/1.2 shoot HERE.
But, now that I have that out of my system, I decided to take a crack at the Nikkor 105mm for some beauty style portraits. Here are a couple of the photos we created, with makeup by the delightful Sarah Byrne:
As for shooting this combo, I gotta say that although the image quality is great, the process was actually kind of painful, mostly due to the slow write speeds to the card. The X-Pro1 would not allow me to use the zoom in the EVF to make sure I was properly focused until it was finished writing the previously taken image to the card, which meant the model had to hold poses for much longer than normal while I waited for the camera to cooperate. Kind of kills the flow of things. Aside from that, the images were beautifully sharp and the colors from this combo are awesome.
I know that the X-T1 has a much better EVF, along with the ability to write much faster to the card, so I'll be taking a crack at this type of set up again very soon as Fuji is sending me one to play with. Stay tuned for that coming in the near future.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, sound off below and I will answer what I can.
